THE ORDER OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE KING
PROVINCE IV SUMMER RETREAT
176 Senior Daughters registered!

Province IV Daughters gathered together on June 10-12 for a virtual retreat with enormous success.  We proved that nothing can stop us, even a pandemic. Thank you to everyone who gathered and everyone who shared during this time of stress and worry.  If you were unable to join us, you are in luck. We recorded all the sessions and they are available on YouTube. Click below for access.

Junior Resources and Activities – Summer 2020

  1. Craft – Make a banner, flag, or wall hanging with our theme, “The Lord Almighty Is With Us Always.”
  2. Bible Study for Juniors using Exodus 13:17-22. God led the Israelites with pillars of cloud and fire. Directresses and Juniors discuss the ways God was with the Israelites in the desert when they left Egypt and discuss ways that God is with us in our lives today.  This could be a Zoom Junior Daughters Chapter meeting.
  3. Zoom – Have a tutorial about using Zoom for Chapter Meetings.
  4. Mandalas – Discuss in a small group with Directresses, Moms, and Juniors ways to use the Mandala as a meditation tool during prayer time.  Download some Mandalas for Juniors to color.  Possible resources:
  5. Prayer – Discuss the importance of taking time to pray each day and connect with our Lord who is always with us. Go to the National DOK website:  www.doknational.org   Resources – Literature for Juniors-Leader’s Guide for Primary Grade and Youth Junior Daughters Study Guide (2011) to find prayer resources on p. 49.
  6. Journaling – The Lord is with us during this pandemic.  Possible journal topics:  How has your life changed during the pandemic? What was school like in March – May? How did you feel about that? What are some ways you have been able to share the love of Christ with others?  Another idea: Keep a Blessings Journal.
  7. Role Models – Name people you believe show the love of God to others. Have some stories about nurses, doctors, first responders etc., from the news available showing what these people have been doing during the pandemic.  What does it mean to think of others before yourself? Why would God want us to do that? How can you serve others with material things, with love, and support? Write letters to these people in your community to thank them.
  8. Bible Study: The Lord’s Prayer – Scripture: Matthew 6:5- 13  Why did Jesus teach the disciples the Lord’s Prayer?  How does the Lord’s Prayer show that God cares about each of us? What are the things that we ask God for in this prayer? Following the pattern of The Lord’s Prayer, write your own prayer.
  9. Helping those in need of food – Chapter or individual service project. Collect canned goods for local food pantry.
  10. Craft: Prayer Bears – Mary Rife, Diocesan Assembly President of SC, and her chapter have made prayer bears to share with children in the hospital.  Also, they could be used for children in a homeless shelter.  Bears may be sewn by hand or machine.  For bear pattern and machine sewing of bears see:
  11. Art: Posters for Nurses and Doctors, First Responders, EMS, etc. –  Make posters to deliver to nurses, doctors, EMS, Grocery store workers etc., to thank them for all they are doing to help during the pandemic.
  12. Music – Juniors, Moms, and Directresses can sing along to some worship/praise songs.  Select a familiar melody and write a song using our theme, “The Lord Almighty is with us Always”. For 2 Hours Non-Stop Worship Songs of 2019 with Lyrics-Best Christian Songs go to:
  13. Take a walk/hike around your neighborhood, a park, your own yard, etc. What are some ways that you know God is with you each day? Why do you think God wants to be with us each day? What are some ways each of us can grow closer to God? Trace the outline of your feet and use the paper feet to record some things you want to remember about God that you thought about on your walk. Beverly Lloyd, Diocesan Assembly President of Atlanta, compiled “Walking with God” a trail walk guide used at Fall Kanuga, 2019, that would be helpful to use during a walk/hike.  “Walking with God” is available to download at the Province IV website.
  14. Juniors share ideas with senior DALs who live in their Diocesan Assembly through email Juniors write, draw, etc., to express what they have learned during the online retreat and what they want to do in their Junior Chapters to continue learning more about following Jesus each day and sharing His love.  Ask the DAL to pray for them and offer to pray for the DAL. Building relationships!
  15. Newsletter articles or do a bulletin board in the parish – Juniors could decorate a parish bulletin board with drawings, articles, etc., showing what they learned during the online retreat or write articles for their parish newsletters about their experiences participating in an online retreat.  Great way to share what the chapter is doing and possibly be part of encouraging more girls in the parish to become Junior Daughters.
  16. Use the Activities and Projects section in the Junior Directress Manual p. 71 for more service ideas for Juniors. Send an article and picture to The Royal Cross, your Diocesan Assembly website or newsletter, and The Messenger for Province IV to share your activity/service project with everyone!  Note: The Junior Directress Manual is a great resource and is available at the National website.  www.doknational.org. Please make sure Directresses have a copy.  It can be downloaded and printed from the Resource Section – Literature for Juniors.

2013 Report on our Fall Assembly/Retreat – 2013

Nearly 150 Daughters, spouses, clergy and guests attended the Fall Assembly/Retreat held at Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, NC, from Monday, October 7 – Thursday, October 10. The Assembly Board met on Monday afternoon, and the Annual Meeting of the Province IV Assembly was held on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Our Retreat theme was Evangelism, and our speaker, the Rev. Janet Echols, gave us much to think about as she told us of her experiences as she spread the Good News to the unreached peoples in India, and how to approach “A”vangelism. We also wrote on cards the names of those for whom we wanted to have prayers said for Jesus to be present in their lives, and we prayed for them around the conference room, ending in a prayer circle. It was very powerful, and we will continue to pray that Jesus to be known to all peoples, especially among women and girls.

The Interfaith Assistance Ministry in Hendersonville, which served 68,000 people last year, received our outreach of 140 lbs of food and household items (the Ministry do actually weigh the food offerings received), and we have sent $631.25 in donations. All attendees were very generous in their support.
